What is a Breast Lift?

The technical term for a breast lift is “mastopexy,” which is a surgical procedure designed to reshape and raise drooping or sagging breasts. The procedure can also reduce the size of the areola (the darker skin surrounding the nipple) or reposition nipples that point downward. A breast lift works to reshape your breasts to create or restore a more youthful, perkier appearance.

Combining these procedures can also increase firmness. A combination breast lift-breast augmentation procedure is particularly popular among Atlanta women whose breasts have lost volume and have begun to sag because of childbearing and breastfeeding. Breast Lift with Fat Grafting

Fat grafting essentially uses liposuction to take fat from other parts of your body and inject it into your breasts. This is a breast augmentation option for women who are looking for a relatively small increase in breast size and would prefer natural results. If you have problem areas that you would like to improve with liposuction, then fat grafting is a perfect option.

Your Breast Lift with Surgery

Your breast lift will consist of an incision made in one of three locations, depending on the plan of care that we jointly determine is best for you.

1. Around your areola
2. Around your areola and downward
3. Around your areola, downward, and along the crease beneath your breast, which is called the anchor or inverted T incision

Regardless of the location chosen, we will be able to improve the contour and firmness of your breasts by reshaping the underlying tissue and trimming away excess skin.

Once your procedure is complete, we will provide you with a surgical bra or bandage to help with healing and to minimize swelling. You will be provided with more detailed care instructions at the time of your surgery.

A breast lift in Atlanta can be performed as an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia. Depending on the volume of your breast tissue, your skin laxity, and desired outcome, the best approach will be determined to lift and firm your breasts.

What to Expect During and After Surgery

Our breast lift procedures are performed on an outpatient basis using general or local anesthesia. Most surgeries are completed in two to three hours, and you will be put under general anesthetic during the procedure. In some cases, where little skin needs to be removed, the breast lift procedure can be performed with a local anesthetic and a sedative.

You can be quite swollen and bruised after surgery, and your breasts may also be quite sensitive and tender for a few weeks. You will usually be sent home with bandages and a surgical bra, which will be removed after a couple of days. You may also have a drain. You will wear the surgical bra for the first few days after surgery. This bra is then replaced with a support bandage or sports bra, which is to be worn at all times for at least four weeks after surgery. Discomfort, swelling, and bruising usually lasts from two to three weeks, so you may be prescribed pain medication during your first week of recovery.
