Black Girls and Botox
I’ve lost count of how many Black women I’ve converted to Botox lovers. And like you they started out saying the same thing: “I would never get Botox. I don’t need that!” Or my favorite black girl line: You know black don’t crack! (Insert eye roll here!)
I’ve heard it all when it comes to reasons why African-American women feel like they don’t “need” Botox. And I get it. You are scared you are going to look like the lady on the news with the asymmetric eyebrow and the frozen face. Take a deep breath … you won’t end up with a Micheal Jackson nose after 20 or even 60 units of Botox.
So, I know what you are probably thinking. “Well, Dr, Val” (yes I am going to be you and me during this pretend dialogue) “have you seen such and suches face!? It’s just too much.”
I agree. Some of these reality stars and actresses who have had way too much, Botox and or filler, serve as the example as to why every day women feel that they should not have Botox (we can talk about filler some other time).
So let me first start off by saying that everybody shouldn’t have Botox and everybody shouldn’t be performing Botox.
Before we get any deeper let’s first talk about what we’re talking about. Botox, also known as botulinum toxin, is a muscle paralytic that can be used for several indications. It can be used to treat after migraines, after hyperhydrosis (excessive sweating), and muscle spasticities in a multitude of areas.
Apart from the above medical indications there is one cosmetic indication for botulinum, and that is, Wrinkles.
After botulinum is injected into the muscle bellies around the brows, forehead or crows feet it causes the muscle to be paralyzed which prevents the overlying skin from forming wrinkles. So grab your mirror scrunch up your forehead and if you see lines there count them. 2 lines will look like the number 11 and 3 will look like 111. Either way you are a good candidate for Botox and you should run, I mean consider, coming to see me.
Why??? The better question is why not!?? softening these wrinkles will give your forehead a smoother more relaxed look. Not to mentioned making your brows and eyes look..why are you still reading???
Just look for the office number. I look forward to meeting you.
